Fractional Excretion Urea (FEUrea)

Fractional Excretion Urea (FEUrea)

Urea excretion is not thought to be promoted by diuretics yet is still retained in volume depleted states. Fractional Excretion of Urea (FEUrea) = ( Uurea * PCr ) / ( Purea * UCr ) * 100

Urine urea (Uurea): mmol/L
Plasma creatinine (PCr): µmol/L
Plasma urea/BUN (Purea): mmol/L
Urine creatinine (UCr): µmol/L
Fractional Excretion of Urea (FEUrea): %

A FEUrea less than 35% indicates pre-renalazotemia, while a FEUrea > 35% is indicative of intrinsic renal failure.
